The very mythical Skyline and the GT-R version did never get off the Japanese island. When Nissan announced a thorough facelift for the Skyline, everyone was eager to catch a glimpse of the new monster... and the deception reigned amongst the fans when the "new" Skyline was unveiled!
Everybody thought that Nissan had just thrown the Skyline badge away, but the Japanese manufacturer just waited for the TMS 2005 to take the wraps off their GT-R Proto, THE replacement for the mythical Skyline!!! The version we saw here at the show is maybe not the final version of the GT-R, but it gives us a very good idea of the monster that will be unleashed onto our roads in 2007, the official release date of this car.
Good news always comes in two, and we know, dear reader, that this new GT-R will NOT be an exclusive product for Japanese roads only, as it will be sold in the USA and Europe too! You cannot imagine how impatient we are to get behind the wheel of this car and share our impressions and experiences with you!
When it comes to specifications, we can tell you that, even though they're not fully final yet, this prototype will have a 3.7l V6 engine that delivers 450bhp to the 4 wheels.
For your info, we got to see a Skyline with 500bhp prepared by Nismo at the "Nissan weekend" at Hakone near the Mt. Fuji this weekend. According to our friend Mr Cyril Drevet (of the "Turbo" car show on the French TV channel M6), it was a true killer machine... so let's not put too much strain on our hearts by imagining a GT-R covered in a nice Nismo sauce...
