Despite all the buzz that Mazda tried to build up around their Sky engines and concept for this year Tokyo Motor Show, Mazda booth was pretty… empty… And we could not really enjoy all the thrilled behind both the 2 Sky Engine and the Sky Concept.
If technically speaking the Sky G and Sky D engines are both utilizing low-friction engine blocks, direct injection and piezo-electric injectors. The Sky G is fitted with a "highly functional variable valve timing mechanism," while the Sky D gets a 2-stage turbocharger besides.
Now add to one of these 2 engines Sky Drive 6-speed transmission, i-stop, regenerative braking and lighter vehicles and you get the Sky Concept Kiyora, a car capable to increase your fuel consumption up to 30%.
