SUV's are not reigning Japanese roads as they are in Europe and the USA. Japanese consumers are more inclined to spend their money on gigantic MPV's that offer a very high comfort level and the possibility to accomodate 7 to 8 people (even though most of these care usually carry only 2 people).
Nissan already had a vehicle called "El Grande" in their range. Other Japanese manufacturers already reacted in the past, and for example Toyota and Honda had their own 4-wheeled "big vans". And here's Nissan again, they will present the Amenio at the Japanese Motor Show in Tokyo... and no, judging by the size of the vehicle, you cannot confuse the Amenio with Anemic.
This MPV is more than 5 metres long and can carry 6 people, and it wants to shred the competition to pieces by offering refined lines that were previously unseen in this category of vehicles.
It's a beautiful design, and its very classy! With its 20" rims, the Amenio has one of those imposing "faces" with a large grille in the front shaped like a mouth and slightly heightened headlights that give the car a lot of character.
The exterior is impressive for sure, but the interior is that too! We immediately have the impression of getting into a Challenger (a luxury private jet from Canadair) with wide and comfortable chairs that can be reclined and in that position you can enjoy the sky through a transparent roof.
The doors open up all the way to provide complete access to the 2 seats in the front and the 2 seats in the back. Getting in and out of a car has never been easier.
When it comes to driving the car, the "pilot" has access to a large, centrally positioned control screen and round, sixties-styled dials. Once again a very luxurious experience with a lot of brown and beige leather and aluminium.
To sum it up: a superb car that we'll definitely try to test during the TMS 2005.
