Impreza STI the official photos from Subaru
At last! Here you are, some official photos of the up-coming Subaru Impreza STI… The STI will be sold in Japan from the 24th of October onward, and Lord, I am anxiously waiting to test this car and try to find out if Subaru still a company worth considering, when talking about performance cars.

More informations from the press release:

Subaru offers the new AWD performance icon

Concept

The new WRX STI was developed with the eternal theme and essence of the driver’s car, the “total driving control,” that the preceding WRX STI models also pursued. This AWD sports model

gives maximum driving pleasure through its combination of power, performance, handling and ride capabilities thanks to engineering exclusively designed for the WRX STI and its five-door package. It also balances excellent safety and environmental aspects at a high level.

Styling

Using a new five-door body style developed from the Impreza model, the new Impreza WRX STI displays a powerful design language that speaks directly to its performance credentials, integrating function and beauty. Adopting shortened front and rear overhangs, a longer wheelbase and widened body flares, the Impreza WRX STI clearly embodies driving performance in dynamic exterior design that delivers as overwhelming presence and beauty.

Performance

The new Horizontally-Opposed 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo charged engine was developed exclusively for the new WRX STI. By further improving the basic performance of the engine, and

mating it to SI-DRIVE (SUBARU Intelligent Drive), the WRX STI offers not only outright performance as might be expected, but also delivers excellent handling under extreme as well as normal driving conditions.

Featuring Subaru’s unique Symmetrical AWD and specially developed in-house 6-speed manual transmission as its base technologies, multi mode DCCD* and VDC**, which control traction and stability more precisely, have also been added to WRX STI. To complete its performance credentials, the evolved chassis by “Subaru Dynamic Chassis Control Concept” has dramatically

improved road-hugging capability and will provide exhilaration and confidence in every driving situation.

I think it looks good. The width and the trim changes are really nice. The interior is a little bit futuristic for me, but it looks good. I am really a big fan of the SI drive, anything that will increase gas mileage without killing performance is great in my book. Im happy to see a normal shifter on it simply because they are predictable, reliable and well known. Lastly the exterior is blessedly toned down to the point where I won't be scared to death to drive this thing past a police station. I think this car is going to be well known as a sleeper that looks calm and quiet and is easy to drive, yet can haul some axx when needed/wanted. who could ask for more!! Make mine in white... sometime around April 2008 :>) -dan

Very nice looking... but the Mitsubishi EVO is much more cohesive in design.
Also this does'nt solve the problem about the bargain basement Impreza's horrible looks, which most customers are going to be buying. Pity
...Word is that Subaru is going for a { very early facelift }. Most likely the ( grille, front intake, f/r lights and all... ).
We'll see...

if you're going to change a solid sedan model like the STI so much you might as well just change the name of the car. this could have been a whole new model for subaru....instead the impreza and all its non-wagon brethen has been lost.

I'm just a bit disappointed. I'd like to see how it performs before I make any strict judgment, but I feel the sedan did the STi more justice. Does look better than the standard WRX though
