After the Lexus GS450h last year which managed to finish 4th of its class and 17th overall, Toyota was back at the 24H race of Tokachi with higher expectations...their weapon this year: a former SuperGT machine modified to welcome an Hybrid engine. The car, known as the Denso SARD Supra HV-R, is powered by a 4.5 litres V8 (480HP) combined with a 170KW electric motor (10KW on each of the front wheels plus 150KW at the rear) to create an unrivaled car for the event.
With a huge power and technology advantage, the Supra pretty much raced against itself and any mechanical failures, hopefully the race was clear and the Toyota led the way to the checkered flag without any technical difficulty.
With this victory, Toyota becomes the first manufacturer to win an endurance race using an hybrid combination, an amazing performance which proves, once again, the domination of the Japanese manufacturer with this technology.
